Our Team

Tenacity Worldwide is a team comprised of Teachers, Engineers, Librarians, Artists, Data Scientists and Nonprofit Executives working to improve rural education.

Many of us are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Ethiopia. Others were raised by RPCVs. Still more are friends or former students of Peace Corps teachers. The ethos of the Peace Corps is woven into the fabric of our Learning Labs and digital textbooks. We aim to provide a great education at no cost to students in places where internet access is limited – or nonexistent.

About our Founder:

Michael McCaskey taught in Ethiopia immediately following his graduation from Yale in 1965. He taught English and Science as a Peace Corps volunteer in a town, Fiche. Fiche is about 72 miles North of Addis Ababa. He was a Professor at UCLA, the Anderson School of Management and Harvard Business School. He taught students & organizations how to manage change and ambiguity after studying under his mentor, Tony Athos. He was President and Chairman of the Chicago Bears Football Club. He was a talented photographer, enjoying capturing portraits of people at ease above all.

He was most proud of the success his students found throughout their lives as business and nonprofit professionals. Their tenacity in learning, in finding a path to fulfilling and enriching careers, then in helping and elevating others to do the same is what inspired the founding of this project. He wanted resources not to be a limiting factor for students without physical textbooks, pencils or notebooks.

With a server the size of a Discman, students in our Learning Labs can connect to their course textbooks, Khan Academy classes, Wikipedia, course videos, audio readings of their textbooks, and course quizzes — all without the benefit of internet access.
